What is Caseyville?

Caseyville, the Community Safety Game, has been developed by the City of Casey Community Safety Department, as a result of the increased emphasis by the City of Casey on community and road safety. It addresses safety with the aim of fostering responsibility in children at a young age.

Recognising the value of using art as a successful learning stimulus, Caseyville, the Community Safety Game is a fun, vibrantly coloured 3m x 3m life-size replica of a board game. The game, which is designed to appeal to all levels of primary school students, is based on the local community and features houses, shops, a school, local park and road network.

The game is divided into four coloured sections with each colour representing a team and a safety theme: red - fire safety; blue - water safety; yellow - road safety and green - play safe.

Caseyville, the Community Safety Game is the first safety game of its type in the Australian education system and will benefit the City of Casey’s over 50 primary schools, as well as other youth groups, by inspiring students to learn and aiding teachers. The City of Casey believes the success of this game will see the concept expanded for use throughout Victoria and nationally.

Applications of Caseyville

Curriculum Standards Framework

In the school setting, Caseyville, the Community Safety Game, is intended to provide a resource for classroom learning. The Health and Physical Education (HAPE) and Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) Curriculum Standards Framework clearly identify safety themes. Identifying ways in which people can improve physical and social environments, influences on people and personal behaviours to enhance health and safety are learning outcomes at this level.

Caseyville, the Community Safety Game can be used either pre or post other safety studies or programs, as a stand-alone activity to explore community safety issues or as a reward for end of safety theme study.

Community Based Youth Groups

Youth groups such as scouts, guides and junior fire brigades can all benefit from utilising Caseyville, the community safety game. It provides a fun and interactive tool to explore safety issues in the community, reinforcing many of the messages that these groups explore as part of their activities.

Community Events

The City of Casey aims to present Caseyville, the Community Safety Game at public events such as Casey Kids Carnival, Berwick Show, Casey Environmental Expo and People in Parks activities. Information displays on various safety themes will complement the game activity.
